'Munh Mein Dahi Jam Gaya Hai': Owaisi Questions Bihar CM Nitish Kumar's Silence On Modi's 'Muslim' Remarks

Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi made the remarks in Kishanganj, which is headed for a triangular contest between AIMIM Bihar unit chief Akhtarul Iman, Congress MP Mohd Javed, and JD(U)'s Mujahid Alam.

New Delhi: AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday challenged Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to clarify his stance regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent controversial remarks about Muslims. The Hyderabad MP made the remarks during an election rally in Kishanganj. Owaisi's remarks come as Kishanganj prepares for a triangular contest between the AIMIM's Bihar unit chief and MLA Akhtarul Iman, sitting Congress MP Mohd Javed, and JD(U) candidate Mujahid Alam. The JD(U) is a BJP ally.

"What has happened to Nitish Kumar? He has not spoken a word on Narendra Modi's utterances? Has he turned dumb? Is milk curdling inside his mouth (munh mein dahi jam gaya hai )," Owaisi said, as reported by PTI.

The reference made by Owaisi pertains to PM Modi's speech at a rally in Rajasthan last weekend, where he accused the Congress of intending to distribute people's wealth among Muslims. Modi also referred to Muslims as "people with more children" and "ghuspaithiye (infiltrators)".

Speaking to the media, Owaisi urged caution against the targeting of Muslims, highlighting their status as the largest minority group in India with a population of nearly 17 crore.

Modi Is Spreading Hatred Against Muslim: Owaisi

Owaisi said "Narendra Modi is spreading hatred against them (Muslims)". "He has been doing so since 2002 (when communal violence broke out in Gujarat, during Modi's chief ministership). If there are fresh riots in the country, Modi shall be squarely responsible."

In his election address, Owaisi slammed both the BJP and the Congress, likening them to "washing machines". Owaisi remarked, "Anybody with a corruption taint gets a clean chit no sooner than he aligns with BJP."  Similarly, the most communal elements in the BJP are portrayed as secular upon joining the Congress, he added.

Talking about Modi's speech, Owaisi said the real infiltrators were the Chinese troops "who have encroached upon Indian territory in Ladakh and other regions". He challenged PM Modi to demonstrate courage by taking action against these intruders.

The Hyderabad MP also sought to highlight what he described as the stark contrast in PM Modi's behaviour towards Muslims domestically and internationally. He criticised Modi for displaying animosity towards Muslims within India while showcasing warmth and camaraderie with leaders of Muslim-majority nations such as UAE and Saudi Arabia, PTI reported.

Owaisi then emphasised the historical camaraderie between Muslims and Hindus during the freedom struggle, and slammed PM Modi for making "crude statements like street thugs".

Owaisi referred to the decline in Muslims' fertility rates, but alleged that the community was disproportionately poor with limited access to higher education due to discrimination.

"Before indulging in diatribe about mangalsutra, Modi should repent for having turned so many of our women into widows during the Covid pandemic when corpses were seen floating on rivers because of faulty policies of his government," he said.

He added, "Power seems to have filled Modi with arrogance. He should look at the royal structures of Delhi, which are now in ruins. It would remind him of the ephemeral nature of power."
