MP: People in this village are forced to go 50 feet down in a well to fetch water

People wait for the dirt in the water to settle down before they can drink it, but still if it doesn’t , they are forced to pour the dirty water down their throats.

New Delhi: Story of this Madhya Pradesh village where people have to toil hard to get a glass of water can leave you appalled. Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh has a village named Kodiya where people have to wait long and struggle hard to bring home not food but water. The situation in the village is so pathetic that people are forced to climb 50 feet down into a dry well to fetch small pails of water, which also is undrinkable. People wait for the dirt in the water to settle down before they can drink it,  but still if it doesn’t , they are forced to pour the dirty water down their throats. Located just 40 kms away from the district headquarters drought hit Kodiya village lies ignored and overlooked. An NGO named Parmarth addressed the grievances of the villagers and took steps to bring accessible drinking water to them. The NGO facilitated the village with 5 tankers of water, but there is a limitation on the quota of water. Each person is allowed to take just 15 litres of waters for use. Families are given water multiplied by the number of people in the family. A family of 3 gets 45 liters whiles a family of five gets 75 litres. The families have to show their token and then only they can get the fixed quota of water. They have to manage drinking, bathing, washing, cleaning and cooking in that amount only. The villagers are forced to defecate in the open despite having toilets because there is not enough water. The situation demands immediate attention of government, 2000 people is struggling for quenching their thirst. Watch ABP News’ full report.
