MEA Calls Rahul Gandhi’s 'Memory Loss Like Biden' Remark On PM Modi 'Unfortunate': 'Not In Keeping With...'
The development comes after Rahul Gandhi lashed out at PM Modi, stating that he is also "losing his memory" like US President Joe Biden.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday, labelled the remark of the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Prime Minister Narendra Modi as "unfortunate." The ministry clarified that Gandhi's comments do not reflect the official position of the Indian government.
The development comes after Rahul Gandhi compared PM Modi to US President Joe Biden by saying Modi is "also losing his memory." Reacting to the statement made by Gandhi, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told news agency ANI that the "multifaceted partnership" of India with the United States has been built over years through perseverance, mutual respect, and commitment.
He added that such comments do not align with the warm and friendly ties shared by the two nations. "India shares a multifaceted partnership with the United States, and this partnership has been built over years of perseverance, togetherness, mutual respect and commitment by both sides. We see such reports as remarks as unfortunate, and they're not in keeping with warm and friendly ties with the United States and do not represent the position of the government of India," Jaiswal told during a press briefing.
When asked about the latest stance and development by the government patrolling on the Line of Actual Control(LAC), he said "it is "under progress. We have said earlier, we have been working on it. It is under progress."
Coordinated Patrol Of India, China’s Armed Forces
Previously, India and China’s armed forces have agreed to conduct one coordinated patrol each week in the Demchok and Depsang regions of eastern Ladakh, with one round of patrols already completed. The coordinated patrols began in the first week of the month after the completion of disengagement in these areas in late October.
Defence sources told ANI that each side will carry out one patrol per week in both Demchok and Depsang, with Indian and Chinese troops each conducting their respective patrols in these areas.
The agreement for disengagement in Eastern Ladakh, including the Depsang and Demchok regions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), was reached after several rounds of discussions at the political, diplomatic, and military levels between India and China.
Tensions between the two countries have been high since the deadly clash in the Galwan Valley in June 2020, which marked the most serious military confrontation between India and China in decades.
