24 Migrants Killed, Many Injured After 2 Trucks Collide In Uttar Pradesh's Auraiya

New Delhi: Twenty-four migrants were killed and atleast 35 were injured after the truck they were travelling in collided with another truck on early Saturday in Auraiya of Uttar Pradesh. Fatehpur Sikri Agra, SHO  and  Kosi Kalan, Mathura SHO have been suspended with immediate effect on directions of CM Yogi Adityanath. CM has also sought a report from SSP, IG, & ADG and announced compensation of Rs 2 lakhs for families of deceased persons & Rs 50000 for injured. " The collision happened at around 3:30am today and 24 labourers have lost their lives, 35 people have been injured and they have been admitted to the nearest hospital.  The probe has been initiated and we have provided immediate medical care to the injured", Mohit Agrawal, IG Kanpur. The migrants were travelling from Rajasthan and were headed to their hometowns in Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal, as quoted by ANI. "Honourable Chief Minister has taken note of the unfortunate incident in Auraiya. He has expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the labourers who lost their lives. He has also directed that all the injured be provided medical care immediately and the Commissioner and IG Kanpur to visit the site and give the report on the cause of the accident immediately," a statement from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's office read. Millions of workers have been walking home from big cities after the lockdown was announced on March 23rd. Thousands have been left with no work, food or water. There have been many reports of labourers injured in such incidents in the earlier phases of lockdown. Before this, 15 migrant workers on their way back home were killed in three accidents, one each in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar earlier this week. On May 9, five workers were killed in Madhya Pradesh’s Narsinghpur district when the truck in which they were travelling hit the central verge of the road. On May 1, government announced special trains for migrant labourers to send them to their respective homes, but not many have registered for these trains so far.
