When I Think Of Meghalaya, I Think Of Talented People, Vibrant Traditions: PM Modi In Shillong

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India is scaling new heights of success and that Meghalaya is making a strong contribution to it.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Friday, said that when he thinks of Meghalaya, he thinks of the talented people and the vibrant traditions in the state. The Prime Minister made the statement while addressing a rally in Shillong ahead of Assembly elections in Meghalaya.

"When I think of Meghalaya, I think of talented people, vibrant traditions. I am here with a message of hope and development. India is scaling new heights of success and Meghalaya is making a strong contribution to it, said PM Modi, as reported by ANI.

Speaking further, PM Modi said that those who have been rejected by the people of the country, say that ‘Modi teri kabar khudegi’ (Modi your grave will be dug) while, people of India are saying ‘Modi tera kamal khilega’ (Modi your lotus will bloom). 

Before addressing the rally, the Prime Minister held a roadshow from Central Library till Police Bazar in Shillong, where he was welcomed by a huge crowd.

Security had been beefed up in Shillong ahead of his visit. More than 1,000 security personnel including Meghalaya Police and Central Armed Police Forces were deployed in the route of the roadshow and Police Bazar point in Shillong.

PM Modi was also scheduled to pay floral tributes to three freedom fighters of the state - U Tirot Sing, U Kiang Nangbah and Pa Togan Sangma in Shillong, according to ANI.

The Meghalaya assembly polls will be held on February 27 and the counting of votes will take place on March 2. This time the BJP is contesting in all 60 constituencies of the state.
