Manmohan Singh Death: PM Modi Mourns Loss Of Former Prime Minister, Hails His 'Wisdom'
Former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has passed away. PM Narendra Modi expressed his condolences, acknowledging Singh's rise from humble beginnings to a respected economist and PM.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday mourned the loss of his predecessor Dr Manmohan Singh, saying that he rose from humble origins to become a respected economist. "He served in various government positions as well, including as Finance Minister, leaving a strong imprint on our economic policy over the years. His interventions in Parliament were also insightful. As our Prime Minister, he made extensive efforts to improve people’s lives," PM Modi said in a post on X.

"Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji and I interacted regularly when he was PM and I was the CM of Gujarat. We would have extensive deliberations on various subjects relating to governance. His wisdom and humility were always visible. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the family of Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji, his friends and countless admirers. Om Shanti," he said in his post.

PM Modi's Last Public Mention Of Manmohan Singh
The last time PM Modi spoke to Manmohan Singh was on his birthday on September 26, 2024. PM Modi called Manmohan Singh on the phone and greeted him. However, before that the two had been involved in an intense war of words during the Lok Sabha elections this year.

PM Modi had accused Manmohan Singh of "favouring Muslims" and allotting them the country's resources on priority, a charge the former PM refuted. Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleged that the previous Manmohan Singh-led UPA government wanted to snatch property from Hindus and distribute it among Muslims.
Manmohan Singh later said in an open letter: "He [Modi] has attributed some false statements to me. I have never in my life singled out one community from the other. That is the sole copyright of the BJP."

Manmohan Singh had further said: “Modiji is the first Prime Minister to lower the dignity of public discourse, and thereby the gravity of the office of the Prime Minister. No Prime Minister in the past has uttered such hateful, unparliamentary and coarse terms, meant to target either a specific section of the society or the opposition."
