Man, Woman Set Themselves On Fire Outside Supreme Court. Reason Remains Unknown

Prima facie, the man and the woman poured kerosene oil on themselves before setting themselves on fire. Police said they are yet to determine why the duo allegedly tried to kill themselves.

New Delhi: A man and a woman allegedly attempted suicide by setting themselves ablaze in front of the Supreme Court premises in New Delhi on Monday.The shocking incident took place at around 12.20 pm earlier today.

Prima facie, the man and the woman poured kerosene oil on themselves before setting themselves on fire. They were stopped by security guards at the gate after they failed to produce sufficient ID to enter the premises.

The reason behind their extreme step was not immediately known. Police said they are yet to determine why the duo allegedly tried to kill themselves.

The duo has been rushed to the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital for treatment while the spot was secured by the police team soon after the incident.

As quoted by news agency PTI, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Deepak Yadav said, " a police team deployed at the spot rushed with blankets to save the man and the woman. The team managed to douse the fire and immediately took the victims to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for treatment."

According to reports, an inquiry is underway. The police investigating the matter have found kerosene, which was allegedly used to start the fire, at the spot. Further details are awaited.
