After AP’s Chandrababu Naidu, Mamata Banerjee bars CBI from entering West Bengal

The withdrawal of 'General Consent' orders prevents the CBI to enter the State any further. Now, if CBI wants to take any action against any central government employees or institutions; they must take specific permission from the state government.

NEW DELHI: In a new addition in the sensational decision where the Andhra Pradesh government on Friday withdrew the ' General Consent ' orders prohibiting the entry of the CBI officials into the State for any kind of inquiry against the employees and officers of the Central government institutions, the Mamata Banerjee government in Bengal has also withdrawn the 1989 ‘general consent order’ accorded to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to exercise its authority in the state. This means the CBI sleuths will have to now seek prior permission before entering the state for official work or carry out operations when directed by a court. The Bengal government decision came after the Chandrababu Naidu Government in Andhra Pradesh withdrew the "general consent" according to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct raids and carry out investigations in the state. Earlier today, the decision by AP was welcomed by West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee. Banerjee had said, "Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu has done the right thing in saying that he won't allow Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in his state." It is reported that the withdrawal of these orders prevents the CBI to enter the State any further. Now, if CBI wants to take any action against any central government employees or institutions; they must take specific permission from the state government. It is said that the move by these state governments is being seen a further intensification of confrontation between the Modi government and opposition parties who are making extensive efforts to forge a non-BJP front to take on the saffron party in 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
