Major Terror Attack Averted In Udhampur, 15 Kg IED Defused: J&K Police

The Jammu & Kashmir Police have averted a major terror attack suspected to have been planned by the terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba.

A major terror attack was averted in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Monday when the police defused an improvised explosive device (IED) weighing 15 kilograms. The cylindrical IED contained RDX, said sources.

A suspect has been detained for interrogation police said.

Apart from the IED, seven 7.62 mm cartridges and five detonators were also recovered in the Basantgarh area. The IED was safely defused on Tuesday, police said.

Terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba is believed to have stowed away the explosive and ammunition. A coded sheet and a letterpad page of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were also recovered.

According to the officials, a case has been registered at Basantgarh police station and further investigation is underway.

On Sunday, a top army officer said security forces in the Kashmir region have been largely successful in reducing the number of militants over the past few years, while the remaining ones are facing an ammunition shortage.

He said that the security forces have stepped up anti-militancy operations and have set a target to bring down the number of active militants in Kashmir further and the forces have been very successful in it. He also said that the Indian Army is vigilant and won't allow any infiltration into Kashmir.

He also said that the Pakistan is sending militants from across the LoC in a bid to disturb the communal harmony in the valley, besides guns are being sent here by Pakistan just to target the civilians but "we will never let that happen".
