Joshi said Moitra travelled to various places abroad 36 times, "for example Tokyo", and businessman Darshan Hiranandani has said that he had sponsored her travel. (PTI Input)

TMC MP Mahua Moitra was on Friday expelled from the Lok Sabha over the 'cash for query' matter. The Ethics Committee report was tabled in the House today.

The Lok Sabha Ethics Committee on Friday recommended that Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra be expelled over the cash-for-query allegations. This comes after the panel presented its report on Moitra's cash-for-question allegations in the Lok Sabha. The case involves allegations made by Bharatiya Janata Party MP Nishikant Dubey that Moitra accepted bribes from businessman Darshan Hiranandani in order to target the Adani Group. Dubey made these allegations in a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

The panel's first report was tabled by Ethics Committee Chairman Vinod Kumar Sonkar on Friday when the Lower House reconvened at noon following an adjournment due to a commotion during Question Hour. The report was obtained by ABP News.

"The serious misdeeds committed by Mahua Moitra call for harsh punishment." "As a result, the Committee recommends that Mahua Moitra, MP be expelled from the Seventeenth Lok Sabha," the report stated.

The report called for an investigation by the government, saying, "In view of highly objectionable, unethical, heinous and criminal conduct of Mahua Moitra, the Committee recommends for an intense, legal, institutional inquiry by the Government of India in a time-bound manner."

The Committee also recommended that the government conduct an investigation into the'money trail' of cash transactions between Mahua Moitra and Darshan Hiranandani as part of the 'quid pro quo'. "The 'money trail' of cash transaction between Smt Mahua Moitra and Shri Darshan Hiranandani as a part of 'quid pro quo' should be investigated by the Government of India in a legal, institutional and time-bound manner," the report went on to say.

The Ethics Committee report was tabled in the lower house amid a commotion caused by TMC MPs. On November 9, the Ethics Committee, which investigated allegations made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, issued a 500-page report recommending Moitra's expulsion from the 17th Lok Sabha due to her "highly objectionable, unethical, heinous, and criminal conduct."
