Maharashtra Weather: Red Alert, Heavy Rainfall In Some Parts. Waterlogged Mumbai On Orange Alert

Mumbai and Thane have been put on orange alert by the IMD as moderate intensity rain will continue to lash the cities till July 10.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued a 'red alert' and warned of heavy to very heavy rain in several parts of  Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. The warning will be in place for the areas till July 9. The weather department has issued a similar warning for Palghar, Pune and Kolhapur till tomorrow, July 8. While in Mumbai and Thane where rain has caused waterlogging in several areas is expected to continue till July 10, and are put on orange alert.

"Red alert issued for Raigad, Ratnagiri & Sindhudurg till July 9, while Palghar, Pune, Kolhapur & Satara are on red alert till July 8. Mumbai & Thane are on orange alert till July 10, said the IMD, as reported by news agency ANI.

Meanwhile, The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed 17 teams in areas of Maharashtra that have been witnessing heavy to very heavy rain.

"In Maharashtra, we have recently seen very heavy rainfall. The Maharashtra government had requested 17 teams and all 17 teams have been made available and are deployed in Mumbai, Thane, etc," NDRF DG Karwal told the news agency.

According to the Central railway, train services have not been disrupted and are largely running on time, reported ANI.

Several rivers in the state are flowing close to the danger mark. The Kundalika river has crossed the warning level and the water level of the Amba, Savitri, Patalganga, Ulhas and Garhi rivers is marginally below the danger level.

An orange alert has also been issued for Thane, Palghar, Pune, Beed, Latur, Jalna, Parbhani and several other areas in Maharashtra for the next five days, reported ANI.
