Maharashtra Govt Issues Revised Rules For Lockdown 4.0; List Of What Is Allowed And What's Not

State government has given permission to resume several e-commerce activities for essential as well as non-essential items in red zones in order to bring the economy of the state back on the track.

Mumbai: Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government on Tuesday afternoon released revised guidelines to be followed during the extended period of lockdown for the containment of COVID-19 in the state. As per the official notice, these guidelines will come into effect from May 22, and shall remain effective till May 31. A day after the state government extended the Coronavirus-induced lockdown till May 31, Thackeray, keeping the MHA guidelines, redrew the red zones which now include - municipal corporations of Mumbai, MMR, Pune city, Solapur city, Aurangabad city, Malegaon, Dhule, Nasik city, Jalgaon, Akola and Amravati. As per the new guidelines, the State government has given permission to resume several e-commerce activities for essential as well as non-essential items in red zones in order to bring the economy of the state back on the tracks. For the same, the state government has uplifted restriction on the movement of people by allowing public transport services in non-red zones. It also allowed opening of stadiums, sports complexes for the practice of athletes in non-red zones. However, no events shall be held with spectators. Here's the list of activities that will continue to remain prohibited:
  • All Domestic and international air travel of passengers prohibited
  • Metro rail services will remain suspended
  • All Educational institutes will remain shut
  • Hotels, Malls, Cinema theaters, gym, swimming pool, bar, auditorium, assembly halls to remain shut
  • All social, religious, large congregations are shut
  • Movement of Individuals prohibited between 7PM to 7 AM
  • Private Offices to remain shut in Red Zones
  • Cabs, taxi, Rikshaws not allowed
List of activities that are now allowed in Red Zones:
  • All essential and non-essential shops, industrial units allowed to open
  • shops, malls, establishments and industries to open in red zones, but only for upkeep and maintenance purposes
  • Restaurants shall be open only for home delivery
  • Sports complex, stadiums to open sans spectators
  • 1+2 in Four wheeler and 1 rider on two wheeler
  • All public/private construction sites or pre-monsoon work
In his televised address to the people on Monday, CM Thackeray had said that more than 50,000 industrial units have now been permitted to resume their activities in the state. He said that since many workers have returned to their native states, Maharashtra is facing a new challenge - shortage of manpower. "In this crisis, I appeal to the people of Maharashtra - the bhoomiputra, especially those in the green zones to step out and join these industries if they are short on manpower. Maharashtra can set an example," Chief Minister said.
