Maharashtra CM Shinde Directs Civic Body To Beautify Mumbai Ahead Of G20 Meeting
India took over the G20 (Group of 20) Presidency on December 1. 14 meetings related to the influential bloc are expected to happen within the next two months.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde asked the local civic body to take on a mission of beautifying the city ahead of a G20 Council meeting which will take place in Mumbai. Shinde suggested the Mumbai civic authorities to have 5,000 "Swatchhta Doots" (ambassadors of cleanliness) and make the city more beautiful than ever.

CM Shinde and Dy CM Devendra Fadnavis reviewed the plans and projects for the purpose of beautification at a meeting that was held at Sahyadri guest house in South Mumbai, said a release of the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) issued on Wednesday. It also said that Shinde directed Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials to transform Mumbai in such a way that the change becomes visible to everyone.
The release quoted Shinde saying: "Our state and Mumbai have got this honour (of holding G20 Council meetings) and for that the city should be transformed and branded strongly. In order to beautify Mumbai and make visible changes, 5,000 sanitation workers should be appointed for cleanliness. Also, lighting should be done on significant buildings, important roads, squares, skywalks and flyovers on a mission mode."

As per the release, Fadnavis suggested civic officials to set up community washing centres in slums.
The civic body is going to undertake a total of 187 beautification works, it added.
