Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia's mother Madhavi Raje Scindia had been undergoing treatment at AIIMS for the last two months, but her condition worsened in the last two weeks.

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia's mother Madhavi Raje Scindia passed away on Wednesday (May 15) morning. She was undergoing treatment at Delhi AIIMS. According to news agency PTI, she breathed her last at 9.28 am. She was on ventilator support for the last few days. She was under treated at AIIMS for the last two months.

Madhavi Raje Scindia's condition worsened to 'critical' over the last two weeks. Confirming the news Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia's team said: "With great sadness we want to share that Rajmata Madhavi Raje Scindia is no more. Madhavi Raje Scindia, mother of Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and queen mother of the Gwalior royal family, was undergoing treatment at AIIMS Hospital in Delhi for the last two months. The situation was very critical for the last two weeks. He breathed his last at 9.28 AM today [Wednesday] at AIIMS Hospital, Delhi. Om Shanti."

Madhavi Raje's mortal remains will be taken to Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh for the last rites.

Owing to his mother's poor health, BJP's Guna candidate Jyotiraditya Scindia dropped the election campaign midway and rushed to Delhi with his wife Priyadarshini Raje and son Mahaaryaman.

Who Was Madhavi Raje Scindia?

Madhavi Raje Scindia is also known as Princess Kiran Rajya Lakshmi Devi. Madhavi Raje belonged to the royal family of Nepal and became the titular queen of Gwalior after her marriage to Madhavrao Scindia in 1966. According to news website Aaj Tak, Madhavi Raje Scindia's grandfather Juddha Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana was the Prime Minister of Nepal. At one time he was also the head of the Rana dynasty.

She was very active in social service work. Madhavi Raje was the chairperson of 24 charitable trusts, in the fields of education and medical aid. She was also the chairperson of the Board of Governors of Scindia Girls School and had a gallery constructed in the palace museum in memory of her late husband and nine-time MP Madhavrao Scindia, who never lost an election.
