Ludhiana: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday came to the rescue of a 10-year-old boy named Vansh Singh after a video went viral of him selling socks at a traffic crossing in Ludhiana to support his family and announced financial assistance.
The Chief Minister tweeted that he made a phone call to the child after seeing the video and also asked Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma to ensure that Vansh, a drop-out, rejoins his school, with the state government bearing all expenses for his education.
“Spoke on phone to young Vansh Singh, aged 10, a Class II dropout who’s video I saw selling socks at a traffic crossing in Ludhiana. Have asked the DC to ensure he rejoins his school. Also announced immediate financial assistance of Rs 2 lakhs to his family,” he posted.
Ludhiana District Public Relations Officer (DPRO) Puneet Pal Singh Gill also tweeted about the assistance announced by the Chief Minister and posted a photograph of the boy.
“Moved by socks seller boy's plight, Punjab CM announces govt. support for his education, Rs 2 lakh aid for family,” he posted.
The video of the boy selling socks had garnered a lot of attention on social media.
