You won't be charged any additional or late fee for delays in the validation of documents pending from February 1.

New Delhi: Those who are hurrying to get the renewal of their driving licences can take it slow as the government has again extended the validity of vehicle documents till July 31. In yet another relief measures in the wake of Covid-19 induced lockdown, vehicle owners whose documents are due for renewal since February 1 can take a breather as the validity has been extended till July 31 and you need not bother about paying a fine or late charge. According to the statement, "In order to facilitate citizens during Covid–19, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) has issued a statutory order prescribing that the fees paid on or after February 1, 2020 for the activity(s) including renewal (of documents) and in case such activity(s) is not completed due to conditions for prevention of Covid-19 pandemic, the fees paid shall continue to remain valid." "And If there is a delay in paying the fees from 1st of Feb, 2020 till the period of lockdown there would not be any additional or late fee to be charged for such delays till 31st July 2020," the statement said. Earlier in March the government has extended the validity of all driving licences and other documents related to Motor Vehicle Act expiring on February 1 and June 30. The ministry of road transport and highways made this declaration in view of the closure of government transport offices due to the nationwide lockdown. The decision was taken to tackle inconveniences faced by people in renewing the validity of driving licence and other documents related to Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 and Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989. It includes the validity of fitness, permits (all types), driving license, registration or any other concerned documents whose extension of validity could not or not likely be processed due to lockdown.
