Delhi Police Protest: Demands Of Personnel Accepted; Demonstration Called Off

LG advised the Commissioner of Police, Delhi, that senior officers should visit the injured policemen to boost their morale and comfort their families.
New Delhi: As the protest by Delhi Police Personnel against repeated incidents of violence against them by lawyers, entered its eleventh hour, their demands were finally agreed upon by their seniors, ending the unprecedented demonstration outside the Police Headquarters at ITO, New Delhi. Earlier, the protesters who were unimpressed with assurances of seniors, had refused to call off their demonstration until a written assurance was provided to them. Theya also staged candlelight protest at the Police Headquarters. After almost nine hours of their protest, Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal reviewed the situation on Tuesday evening, and announced a “suitable” ex-gratia to be given to the injured officers. Baijal advised the Commissioner of Police, Delhi that senior officers should visit the injured policemen to boost their morale and comfort their families. He also announced that suitable ex-gratia will be given to the injured officers of Delhi Police. The Lieutenant-Governor (LG) also directed the Chief Secretary to ensure that best possible medical treatment is provided to the injured advocates and policemen, free of cost. He also appealed for harmony and maintenance of law and order. Commissioner of Police Amulya Patnaiak, later offered Rs 25,000 as compenstaion to the injured cops and appealed the protetsing officials to end their protest. Earlier,  Devesh Srivastava, Joint Commissioner of Police (Southern Range) had told the protesting cops that all their demands will be met and no departmental action will be taken against those protesting. “All your demands will be accepted. FIRs have also been registered in connection with Saket and Tis Hazari Court incidents. No departmental action will be taken against those who are protesting,” he said. Earlier in the day, city Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik, addressed the policemen assuring them of legal action against the advocates who attacked the men in khaki. He appealed the policemen to get back to their duty points and act as a disciplined force. Calling the Saket court incident a "stray one", Patnaik said it should not be generalised. Also Watch:
