Land-For-Jobs Scam: Tejashwi Yadav Moves Delhi HC For Stay On CBI Summons

The Rouse Avenue Court earlier in the day granted regular bail to former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, their daughter Misa Bharti and the other accused in the alleged scam.

New Delhi: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav moved Delhi High Court on Wednesday seeking a stay on three summons issued by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with land-for-jobs scam, news agency ANI reported.

The petition filed by Yadav mentions that notice under Section 160 of CrPC can be issued to a person who lives within the jurisdiction of that police station or the adjoining police station. Therefore, the CBI notices has been gross violation of Section 160 of CrPC.

The plea further stated that the petitioner is a permanent resident of Patna.

The Deputy Chief Minister through his petition also urged that directions be issued to the central agency that whenever he is interrogated in the case, he be allowed the presence of advocates at a visible distance and not audible, as per law laid down by the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, the Rouse Avenue Court earlier in the day granted regular bail to former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, their daughter Misa Bharti and the other accused in the alleged scam.

Notably, the land-for-jobs case pertains to alleged appointments made in the railways in return for land parcels gifted or sold to Prasad's family when he was the union railway minister between 2004 and 2009.

In its probe, the CBI found that the accused, in connivance with the then General Manager of Central Railway and CPO of Central Railway had appointed persons in their name or their close relatives in lieu of land. The land was acquired at a price lower than the prevailing circle rate and much lower than the market rate.

Several persons residing in Patna themselves or through their family members had sold their land in Patna in favour of Prasad's family members and a private company controlled by his family was also involved in the transfer of such immovable properties.
