New Delhi: Ashish Mishra, the prime accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case and son of Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra, was on Friday remanded in two-day police custody.

It was for the second time that Ashish Mishra, arrested for his alleged role in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, was remanded in police custody.

Besides Ashish Mishra, Lakhimpur Kheri’s Chief Judicial Magistrate Chinta Ram also sent three other accused – Ankit Das, Shekhar Bharti and Latif – to police custody in connection with the case, PTI reported.

Ashish Mishra, who was arrested earlier on October 9 after over 11 hours of questioning in connection with the case, was first remanded to police custody on October 11 with the remand period starting on October 12 and ending on October 15.

The Union Minister’s son was sent back to the Lakhimpur Jail under judicial custody after the expiry of his first remand period.

Earlier on October 3, violence erupted in Lakhimpur Kheri after two SUVs allegedly ran over a group of anti-farm law protesters, who were demonstrating against the visit of Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya at Tikonia-Banbirpur road.

Eight people, including four farmers, were killed in the incident.

The farmer leaders have alleged that Ashish Mishra was in one of the SUVs, which allegedly ran over the protesters.

This allegation has, however, been denied by the Union Minister and his son.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha, which is spearheading the agitation against the Central government’s three farm laws, has alleged that the violence was held under a pre-planned conspiracy.
