Kerala Accounted For Nearly 50% Of India's Overall Covid-19 Caseload Last Week: Health Ministry
The Health Ministry also warned against the ongoing second wave and the possibility of a third wave of Coronavirus.
New Delhi: Despite safety measures and imposition of a complete lockdown, daily Coronavirus cases in Kerala continue to witness a significant surge with almost 50 per cent of the total caseload recorded in the country. According to the recent Health Ministry bulletin, 49.85 per cent of total cases of Covid-19 in India were reported from Kerala last week.
"There are 18 districts including 10 districts of Kerala where an increasing trend in cases is seen. These 18 districts constitute of 47.5 per cent cases," Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Union Health Ministry said.
Meanwhile, the number of daily Covid-19 cases has decreased in 222 districts of the country.
There were 279 districts on June 1, where over 100 cases were reported but it has come down to 57 districts now, where over 100 cases are being reported in the country, Agarwal added.
Agarwal also warned against the ongoing second wave and the possibility of a third wave of Coronavirus. " High number of Covid-19 cases are being reported across the world and the pandemic is far from over. As far as India is concerned, the second wave is still not over," he said.
As per Kerala Health Ministry, the state on Monday reported as many as 20,728 fresh cases of Coronavirus with 56 deaths in 24 hours.
As of Monday, there were 1,67,379 active cases in Kerala. A test positivity rate of 12.14 per cent was recorded out of 1,70,690 samples tested in the last 24 hours. Kerala government, last week, announced a complete lockdown due to the spike in Covid-19 cases.
