Bengaluru Rains: Heavy Downpour Inundate APJ Abdul Kalam's Former Residence At Kendriya Vihar Apartments

For the second time in two weeks, Kendriya Vihar apartments in Yelahanka faced heavy inundation forcing residents to evacuate.

Kendriya Vihar Yelahanka Floods: Heavy overnight rainfall from Monday night led to severe flooding in parts of north Bengaluru with Yelahanka and areas around Doddabommasandra lake being the hardest hit. For the second time in two weeks, Kendriya Vihar apartments in Yelahanka faced heavy inundation forcing residents to evacuate.

On Tuesday, residents woke up to waist-deep water in their compound, sparking safety concerns.

Amruth Kiran, a resident of the apartment complex, described the situation to The Hindu as worse than the previous flooding. He said that another compound wall has collapsed and there was much more water this time. Kiran said that there would be no drinking water or power for the next 24-48 hours so they were told to evacuate from the place.

Kendriya Vihar, once home to former President APJ Abdul Kalam, has been severely impacted by flooding in recent weeks, as reported by The Hindustan Times. Just last week, residents saw water levels rise high enough for people to spot fish in the apartment’s basement.

The apartment complex, located near Bellary Road en route to Bengaluru airport, is home to many middle-class families. A 2 BHK unit in the area typically costs around Rs 45 lakh with monthly rentals averaging Rs 25,000. However, frequent flooding has now become a significant issue for the residents, affecting their daily lives.

With no immediate respite from the rain, the situation in Yelahanka and other affected areas remains critical.

The IMD reported widespread rainfall across South Interior and Coastal Karnataka, with heavy showers expected in Udupi, Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Chikballapura, and Kolar districts. On Tuesday, moderate rain is likely in other parts of South Interior Karnataka, while light to moderate rain is expected in North Interior Karnataka.
