Karnataka: Hindu Outfits Launch 'Love Jihad Helpline' For Girls In Mangaluru, Says Report

The VHP launched this helpline in association with several other Hindu organisations in order to provide legal and medical assistance to girls and family members who have been forced to convert.

In Karnataka's Managaluru, a "love jihad helpline" has been established to assist girls who have allegedly been victims of coerced religious conversions or interfaith marriages. In association with several other Hindu organisations, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has developed this helpline to provide legal and medical aid to these girls and their families, news agency ANI reported.

According to Pradeep Saripalla, and Prachara Pramukh (publicity head) of VHP, the helpline would connect these girls to a 20-member team of doctors, counsellors, and other volunteers, the report said.

"Many Hindu girls have been converted to Islam, killed and used to smuggle drugs in the name of love, we have seen all this in coastal Karnataka since many years," That's why, to prevent all such incidents, we have started this 'Love Jihad Helpline' which can be accessed by anyone who has been trapped in the Love Jihad," he was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

The identity and all other information will be kept confidential. The helpline team would consist of 20 people who would provide medical assistance, legal guidance, counselling, and rehabilitation. Anyone can contact this number for assistance without fear, according to the report.

According to the report, the VHP provided these girls with a phone number and a WhatsApp number so they could contact counsellors and get the support they need.

The 2023 Karnataka Legislative Assembly election is scheduled to take place in the state before May 2023, with all 224 Karnataka Legislative Assembly members being elected.

The Karnataka Legislative Assembly's term will end on May 24, 2023.

The last assembly elections were held in May of 2018. Following the election, a coalition of the Janata Dal (Secular) and the Indian National Congress formed the state government, with H D Kumaraswamy as Chief Minister. When numerous members of the INC and JD(S) resigned from the assembly in July 2019, the coalition government fell apart. Following that, the state government was constituted by the Bharatiya Janata Party, with B S Yediyurappa as Chief Minister.

Yediyurappa resigned as Chief Minister on July 26, 2021, and Basavaraj Bommai was sworn in as the next Chief Minister on July 28, 2021.
