Karnataka Hijab Row | Outsiders Have No Right To Comment On India’s Internal Matters: MEA

“Outsiders have no right to comment on internal issues and matters relating to India's constitution and its people,” he added.

New Delhi: Amid the ongoing hijab row in Karnataka, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday said the issue is sub-judice, adding other nations have no right to comment on India’s internal matters.

“This is not a matter for the Ministry of External Affairs. Being an internal matter of India, any comment on it by an outsider or another country is not welcome,” MEA official spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said.

“Outsiders have no right to comment on internal issues and matters relating to India's constitution and its people,” he added.

Asserting India has a “constitutional mechanism, judicial system and democratic ethos”, he added: “This gives us a framework to find solutions to such things. And this issue is sub-judice. Karnataka High Court is looking into it.”

Earlier on Tuesday, the MEA said the recent statement by General Secretariat of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on hijab row in Karnataka was “motivated and misleading”.

“Issues in India are considered and resolved in accordance with our constitutional framework and mechanisms, as well as democratic ethos and polity,” Bagchi said.

The MEA official spokesperson said the “communal mindset of the OIC Secretariat does not allow for a proper appreciation of these realities”.

“We have noted yet another motivated and misleading statement from the General Secretariat of the OIC on matters pertaining to India. Issues in India are considered and resolved in accordance with our constitutional framework and mechanisms, as well as democratic ethos and polity,” said Bagchi.

“OIC continues to be hijacked by vested interests to further their nefarious propaganda against India. As a result, it has only harmed its own reputation,” he added.
