Who Is Vikas Dubey? Here’s All About UP's History-Sheeter Behind The Attack On Kanpur Cops

New Delhi: In a violent face-off with criminals in Kanpur, eight policemen were killed, and four others were injured on Thursday. The incident happened during an operation by the authorities to catch notorious criminal Vikas Dubey.

Who is Vikas Dubey?
The gangster from Uttar Pradesh is a history-sheeter who is facing up to 60 criminal cases. Dubey resides in Dikru village and according to media reports also has a private army. He is also the prime accused of the murder of the BJP leader Santosh Shukla in 2001. The leader was shot inside Shivli police station and his family had accused the police of being mute spectators. Dubey was later acquitted by a session court due to a lack of evidence. After this incident, he became renowned in the criminal world for his power.
His business included extortion and even a hotel business in major cities in Uttar Pradesh such as Lucknow, Gorakhpur, and Kanpur. He is especially known in Kanpur both urban and rural areas for extortion of industrialists.
He is also a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader and was also a party of the zila panchayat.

UP Encounter
On Thursday night, the police were ambushed when a team had gone to raid an area in search of Dubey. The raid was carried out at around 1 am on the intervening night of July 2-3 in Bithoor area in Chaubepur in Kanpur.
As the police party reached the Bikru village under Kanpur Dehat's Shivli Police Station area to make the arrest, at least eight to ten criminals opened indiscriminate fire from the rooftops. Shivrajpur Station Officer Mahesh Yadav, a sub-inspector and five constables were the others killed in the attack. UP ADG, Law & Order Reached the spot to investigate the situation and said that strict action will be taken against the aides of Vikas Dubey and they will not let the sacrifice of 8 policemen go in vain. In the latest development, the husband of Vikas Dubey's house-help has also been arrested for interrogation.
