Jaswant Singh Passes Away At 82; Here's How Political Leaders Remembered The Prolific Former Union Minister

Several prominent political leaders such as PM Modi, Defence Rajnath Singh, Delhi CM Kejriwal wrote about former union minister Jaswant Singh by remembering his prolific political career.

New Delhi: Former Union Minister Jaswant Singh has passed away at the age of 82, on Sunday. Many political leaders of the country have taken to Twitter to condole his demise.  In a series of tweets, PM Narendra Modi honored the former union minister who was also a retired army officer. The Prime Minister honoured him for serving the nation diligently, first as a soldier and later during his long association with politics.

Jaswant Singh Ji served our nation diligently, first as a soldier and later during his long association with politics. During Atal Ji’s Government, he handled crucial portfolios and left a strong mark in the worlds of finance, defence and external affairs. Saddened by his demise.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh who was the first to confirm the news of his passing away, wrote, "Deeply pained by the passing away of veteran BJP leader & former Minister, Shri Jaswant Singh ji. He served the nation in several capacities including the charge of Raksha Mantri".

Jaswant Singh was from Jodhpur and had served as India's foreign minister, defense minister and finance minister. In the 1950s and 60s, he was an officer in the Indian Army but he resigned to become a part of politics.
