JD(U) Leader Upendra Kushwaha Says Stones Pelted At His Vehicle In Bihar

JD(U) leader Upendra Kushwaha on Monday alleged that his convoy was attacked in Jagdishpur of Bhojpur district.

JD(U) leader Upendra Kushwaha on Monday alleged that his convoy was attacked near Nayka Tola turn in Jagdishpur of Bhojpur district in Bihar. Kushwaha claimed some people pelted stones at his vehicle and fled the spot.

"Some anti-social elements pelted stones. When the security personnel ran after them, all fled," Kushwaha tweeted.

Speaking of the incident, Kushwaha told ANI, "Several people started pelting stones at my car. We have not been hurt. Whether it was political or not, we can't say at this time."

The incident comes amid Kushwaha's growing tensions with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. 

The rift began after reports surfaced in the media that Kushwaha could be made deputy CM of Bihar. However, Nitish shot down the rumours, saying RJD's Tejashwi Yadav would remain the sole occupant of the post.

Days later, Kushwaha's pictures with some BJP leaders went viral when the JD(U) leader was in Delhi to undergo a medical check up. 

Kushwaha, who is the party parliamentary board chief, was not invited snubbed by the JD(U) to a function attended by the chief minister and most other top leaders.

In the event, Nitish Kumar, making a veiled reference to Kushwaha, said the JD(U) leader was planning to desert the party again.

"He never conveyed to me if he had any unfulfilled ambitions. He may go wherever he likes. Though here he enjoys respect", Kumar had told reporters, according to a PTI report.

Following this, at a press conference, Kushwaha claimed that the JD(U) had grown "weak" in recent times and that senior leaders in the party remained in touch with the BJP despite the break up in August last year.

Kushwaha, however, made it clear that he "will never become a member of the BJP". 

Kushwaha returned to the JD(U) fold in 2021, eight years after quitting the party and merged his Rashtriya Lok Samata Party. He was quickly rewarded with a berth in the legislative council.
