J&K: Hybrid Terrorist Arrested, Reasi Police Say Major Tragedy Averted With Recovery Of Arms

Jammu & Kashmir: Following credible inputs, teams of Reasi Police conducted a raid to arrest accused Zaffar Iqbal who then confessed his proximity to terror organisations.

New Delhi: A hybrid terrorist has been arrested after which a joint operation was launched by teams of Reasi Police, 58 Rashtriya Rifles, and 126 battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Jammu & Kashmir's Angrala forest.

Arms, ammunition and explosives were recovered from a hideout, the police informed.

Mahore Police Station received information through reliable sources that a person identified as Zaffar Iqbal, son of of Karim Baksh, is in touch with terrorist handlers in Pakistan. The suspect was informed to be a resident of Bal, Angralla tehsil in Reasi's Mahore.

Notably, his brother Mohd Ishaq was a terrorist of terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and was killed in an encounter with security forces in Rajouri district. Reportedly, one of his relatives named Abdul Rashid from Mahore's Ladh area is in Pakistan and is also working with terror groups.

Following the inputs, teams of Reasi Police conducted a raid to arrest accused Zaffar Iqbal from Plaasu Nallah area and put him under interrogation.

During interrogation, Zaffar confessed his proximity to terror organisations.

Major Terror Strike Averted Due To Arrest: Reasi SSP

A joint operation of teams of Reasi Police, 58 RR and 126 Bn of CRPF was launched in Angrala forest based on information revealed by him. This operation led to recovery of arms, ammunitions and explosive from a hideout including two pistols (glock) of which one had a damaged hand grip, four magazine pistols (two damaged), 22 rounds of 9mm live, and a grenade (likely Chinese).

In further disclosure, an amount of Rs 1,81,000 being used for terror-related activities was also recovered.

Terming the arrest and recovery a big success, Senior Superintendent of Reasi Police Amit Gupta informed that Zaffar was in touch with terror groups and due to his arrest, a major terror strike has been averted.

The SSP further added that Pakistani handlers are constantly trying to revive militancy in the upper reaches of the Reasi district and people like Zaffar are working for them.

He emphasised that peace-loving citizens of Reasi disowned militancy in the past and no such attempt will be successful in this area.
