Kathua Encounter: 'Every Drop Of Blood Will Be Avenged,' Says J&K Guv As Cop Succumbs To Injuries

Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Governor Manoj Sinha reacted to the Kathua encounter after the cop involved in the gunfight with the gangster succumbs to his injuries.

Kathua Encounter: Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday said that "every drop of the blood of our martyr will be avenged" after the Probationary Sub-Inspector, Deepak Sharma, who suffered severe head injuries during an encounter with a gangster in Kathua region, died during treatment. 

In an X post, the office of the J&K governor said, "I salute the valour & indomitable courage of PSI Deepak Sharma, who made supreme sacrifice while valiantly fighting & neutralising a most wanted gangster in Kathua...Every drop of blood of our martyr will be avenged and we are committed to create a fear-free J&K". 

Earlier in the day, a gangster was shot dead in an exchange of fire with police near Government Medical College (GMC) hospital, news agency PTI reported.

As per the report, the police forces were acting on a tip-off. A team of officials chased gangsters including Vasudev, a key accused in a murder case registered at Ramgarh police station, which led to an exchange of fire near the GMC hospital around 10.30 pm on Tuesday.

According to the report, the gangster was killed in the encounter. The report further said that one of his associates was injured. Deepak Sharma was injured in the head. The PTI report said that a 40-year-old Special Police Officer, Anil Kumar, also suffered injuries.

They were initially admitted to GMC Hospital in Kathua and later taken to Amandeep Hospital in Pathankot, the report said citing a senior police official.

The police official further said that PSI died during treatment, and the body was taken to GMC hospital in Kathua.
