J&K: Ex-Militant Shot By Unknown Gunmen In Pulwama's Kakapora Area, Condition Said To Be Critical

Pulwama: Unknown gunmen shot a former militant in the Kakapora area of South Kashmir's Pulwama district late Thursday evening causing serious injuries to him. ALSO READ | 'China Has No Locus Standi To Comment': India Junks Issue Raised By Beijing Over Ladakh, Arunachal Pradesh IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar while confirming the incident said that the ex-militant identified as Tanveer Ahmad Sofi (30), son of Ghulam Muhammad Sofi of Sofi Mohalla Kakapora was shot at near J&K Bank Kakapora. He added that Tanveer received bullet injuries and was shifted to hospital for treatment where his condition is said to be critical. Tanveer was affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and later surrendered. He was later engaged in the Sericulture department of the J&K government. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the Army said it foiled suspected BAT action from the Pakistani side along the Line of Control in the Tangdhar sector of Jammu and Kashmir. This is the first such incident this year in which militants backed by the Pakistani army tried to target Indian troops through a cross border raid. The Army released a statement confirming the incident. The statement read that "Suspected BAT (Border Action Team) action bid foiled in Tangdhar. Today early morning, suspicious activity was observed of 3-4 intruders by alert troops, close to forward post along LoC". It said timely action by alert troops averted the infiltration bid. “Area search and surveillance (is) under progress,” it added. The Army had recently said that over 250 militants are waiting on launch pads all along the line of control (LOC) from Uri to Gurez to infiltrate across the border.
