The delimitation holds significance as after Jammu & Kashmir lost its special status, both the Lok Sabha and assembly constituencies are to be demarcated under the Constitution.

According to the sources, political parties which have invited for deliberations include National Conference, People's Democratic Party, Apni Party, CPI-M, People's Conference, Congress, JKANC, NTP, and BJP.

“Delimitation Commission is visiting the UT of Jammu and Kashmir from 6th July and during the visit, the Commission has desired to hold meetings with Political Parties at Srinagar and Jammu on July 6 from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM and July 8 from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM respectively,” reads the letter.

“Accordingly, I am directed to request you to convey the names and contact numbers of members of the delegation of your party (maximum five persons) at both places (Srinagar and Jammu) so that necessary time slots can be reserved and accordingly conveyed in advance,” the letter from the chief electoral officer added.

It has been further requested that written representation/memorandum be also shared either in advance with the office or at the time of meeting with the Commission.

The delimitation holds significance as after the Central government abrogated Article 370 and removed Jammu-Kashmir's special status, both the Lok Sabha and assembly constituencies are to be demarcated under the Constitution.

As per the 2019 Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, the new legislature in the erstwhile state will have 90 assembly seats.
