Punjab AAP MLA’s Father Arrested For Demanding Rs 10 Lakh From Rape Accused

Father of AAP MLA Jagdeep Kamboj "Goldy," Surinder Kamboj, was apprehended on Friday in connection with an extortion case, according to the police. According to Indian Penal Code Sections 384 (extortion), 389 (placing a person in dread of an allegation of a crime in order to conduct extortion), and 34 (acts done by multiple people in furtherance of common intention), he was taken into custody after a complaint was filed against him on Friday at the Jalalabad Police Station. Following a complaint from one Sunil Kumar, a property trader and inhabitant of Jalalabad, Surinder and three other people, including two women, were arrested.
Law is fair for everyone, according to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Speaking with reporters in Moga district, he stated: “I have said this before too that anyone indulging in any wrongdoing will be dealt as per the law and action will be taken," PTI reported.
Goldy Kamboj, a Jalalabad MLA, denied any involvement when contacted. The MLA said that he was not currently residing with him. “If he is my father, that does not give him any right to cheat people," he stated.
“I come to know about the incident from the police only. Action will be taken against anyone who will do wrong,” the MLA stated.
The complainant claims that the father of the Jalalabad MLA sought Rs 10 lakhs in exchange for committing to protect him in a fictitious rape case.
In response to the complaint, the police detained Jalalabad residents Surinder Singh Kamboj and three others, including the two ladies.
According to Sunil Kumar's testimony to the police, one of the accused women visited his home on Thursday at approximately 3:30 p.m. to inquire about renting his home.
He claimed to have taken her to a house. He said that he received a call later in the evening though.
“I received calls from her son who alleged that I had raped her. Later in the evening, I received a call from Surinder Kamboj who told me that the police will book me in the rape case. Surinder Kamboj also demanded an amount of Rs 10 lakh as settlement following which I complained to the police,” Sunil Kumar was quoted by PTI in its report.
Fazilka’s Senior Superintendent of Police Avneet Kaur Sidhu said: “The police will take action in accordance with the law.”
