Jahangirpuri Violence: Kejriwal Condemns Incident, Says Strict Action Should Be Taken Against Culprits

He further said that he has spoken to the Lt Governor who has assured that all steps are being taken to ensure peace and that the guilty will not be spared.

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal condemned the incident of violence during the Hanuman Jayanti procession in Jahangirpuri area on Saturday and said stringent action should be taken against those found guilty.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Kejriwal appealed to the people to maintain peace during this time and said stringent action should be taken against those who are guilty.

He further said that he has spoken to the Lt Governor who has assured that all steps are being taken to ensure peace and that the guilty will not be spared.

Notably, violence erupted during a Hanuman Jayanti procession in Jahangir Puri area in Delhi on Saturday, police said.

According to officials, several vehicles have been vandalised by the miscreants and police personnel were injured in the incident.

"A clash broke out between two communities. But we have deployed adequate forces and senior officers are also at the spot. The situation is being brought under control now," news agency PTI quoted a senior police officer as saying.

According to reports, around 200 Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel have been deployed along with Delhi Police to control the situation.

Dependra Pathak, Special Commissioner of Police, Law & Order, as quoted by news agency ANI, said, "The situation is under control. We are trying to create a peaceful environment by holding talks with peace committees and appeal to everyone to maintain peace."

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to two top Delhi Police officers on the incident of violence and directed them to take necessary action, official sources close to PTI said.
