J&K: Protests In Budgam, Srinagar Over Hezbollah Chief Nasrallah's Killing, Mehbooba Cancels Poll Campaign

People poured out on roads in Hassanabad, Rainawari, Saidakadal, Meer Behri, and Ashaibagh areas in Srinagar and chanted anti-Israel and anti-US slogans with black flags in their hands.

Protests erupted in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam and Srinagar on Saturday as people took to the streets to protest against the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed on Friday in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut. Meanwhile, former J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti also cancelled her campaign scheduled for tomorrow to protest against Nasrallah's death.

A video shared by news agency ANI showed scores of people, including women and children, participating in the protest march, holding photo frames of the slain leader and raising slogans in favour of Hezbollah and Palestine.

People also poured out on roads in Hassanabad, Rainawari, Saidakadal, Meer Behri, and Ashaibagh areas in Srinagar and chanted anti-Israel and anti-US slogans with black flags in their hands, news agnecy PTI reported.

Though the protests remained peaceful, police personnel were deployed in the areas to ensure the demonstrations don't turn violent. Massive traffic snarls were also reported due to the protests.

Mehbooba Mufti Cancels Election Campaign For Tomorrow

Besides Mehbooba Mufti, Lok Sabha member from Srinagar Aga Ruhullah, who was canvassing for National Conference candidates, also suspended his campaign for tomorrow.

Pledging support to Lebanon and Palestine and expressing solidarity over Nasrallah's death, the PDP president said: "Cancelling my campaign tomorrow in solidarity with the martyrs of Lebanon & Gaza especially Hassan Nasarullah. We stand with the people of Palestine & Lebanon in this hour of immense grief & exemplary resistance."

'Nasrallah's Loss Can't Be Measured': J&K Anjuman-e-Sharie Leader

Mourning Nasrallah's death, J&K Anjuman-e-Sharie, Shian Aga Syed Hassan Mosavi Al Safavi said that the Hebollah leader was working for humanity and was thus alleged to be involved in terrorism so the world won't get to know about his works. He also added that he wants the people of Palestine to be free.

"No matter how much we mourn his (Hassan Nasrallah) death, it will always be lesser... There should be peace and that was his mission. He was alleged to be involved in terrorism so that the people wouldn't get to know what he was doing for humanity and what he wanted. He wanted Palestine to be free for the people of Palestine. I wanted to say to the entire humanity and Islamic people, that this will bring something extraordinary for which he has sacrificed his life. His loss can't be measured but thousands of Nasrallah will born from his blood and will take this mission forward and get success," he said.

The Iran-backed militant group, Hezbollah, confirmed today that its leader and one of its founders, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in the airstrikes launched by Israel on Friday in Lebanon’s Beirut.

The announcement came hours after the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) announced the "elimination" of Nasrallah, saying he will "no longer be able to terrorise the world."
