10 Arrested For Stone Pelting And Anti-National Sloganeering Outside Yasin Malik's Home: J&K Police

A huge crowd, including women had assembled at Yasin Malik's residence at Maisuma near Lal Chowk city centre and raised slogans in his support.

New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir police Thursday arrested 10 people in connection with incident of stone pelting and anti-national sloganeering outside separatist leader Yasin Malik's house in Kashmir, reported news agency ANI. The protests were held prior to sentencing of  Malik by a Delhi court in a terror funding case.

A huge crowd, including women had assembled at Malik's residence at Maisuma near Lal Chowk city centre and raised slogans in his support. Some of the protesters also pelted stones at the security forces, who fired teargas shells to bring the crowd under control, reported PTI.  However, there were no reports of any injury or casualty.

Special Judge Praveen Singh awarded jail term to separatist leader for offences under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and the IPC, rejecting the NIA’s plea for capital punishment.

While passing the order, the court said, "These crimes were intended to strike at the heart of the idea of India and intended to forcefully secede J&K from UOI. The crime becomes more serious as it was committed with the assistance of foreign powers and designated terrorists. The seriousness of crime is further increased by the fact that it was committed behind the smokescreen of an alleged peaceful political movement," reported news agency PTI.

The JKLF leader was awarded life imprisonment by the NIA court in two offences under section 121 (waging war against the Government of India) of IPC and section 17 (raising funds for terrorist act) of the UAPA.
