Infrastructure Biggest Multiplier Of Investment, Will Boost Economy: Modi On PM Gati Shakti

Prime Minister said, "PM Gati Shakti will not only lead to rapid infrastructure development but also generate employment. With PM GatiShakti, we will be able to optimally utilise our resources."

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a webinar highlighting how PM Gati Shakti will be helping the country to build modern infrastructure and contribute towards the development.

Addressing a webinar on Monday, the Prime Minister said, "PM Gati Shakti will not only lead to rapid infrastructure development but also generate employment. With PM GatiShakti, we will be able to optimally utilise our resources."

The Prime Minister highlighted that PM Gati Shakti will enhance the infrastructural fervour of New India.

"To fulfil the dreams of 21st century India, PM Gati Shakti will enhance the infrastructural fervour of New India," he said. "Usually, we develop infrastructure according to our requirements. Whether it is a work of rail or road, there are conflicts between the two. This is because different departments don't have details of all development projects," he said.

Key points of PM Modi's speech:

  • PM Gati Shakti will make infrastructural planning, implementation and monitoring work in a coordinated manner, said the Prime Minister.
  • Modi further said, "The scale on which our govt is working on infrastructure development, PM Gati Shakti will be playing a vital role in this. The govt has increased investments in the development of national highways, railways, airways, waterways and renewable energy."
  • He added, "Infrastructure is the biggest multiplier effect of investment. This also boosts the economic productivity of all other sectors. Today, our country is accelerating infrastructural development which will increase economic activities and job creation in the country."
  • Focusing on the north east, PM Modi announced a new scheme for the states. He said, "A new scheme, PM’s Development Initiative for North- East, PM-DevINE, will fund infrastructure, in spirit of PM Gati Shakti & social development projects based on the needs of North-East. The scope of PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan will further reduce compliance burden."
  • The Prime Minister added that to strengthen cooperative federalism, the Government has decided to help state governments with the allocation of Rs 1 lakh crore. State governments can use this to develop multimodal infrastructure.
  • He also said that PM GatiShakti will also help our exports and make our MSMEs globally competitive.
  • Technology will play a major role in PM Gati Shakti. We have to find ways to construct quality infrastructure that are not only cost-effective but also disaster resilient. PM Gati Shakti Masterplan has more than 400 layers of data plan

The PM Gati Shakti - National Master Plan was announced last year with an aim to break departmental silos and bring in more holistic and integrated planning and execution of projects with a view to addressing the issues of multi-modal and last-mile connectivities.

This will help in bringing down the logistics cost, Modi said while addressing the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) stakeholders' meet on PM Gati Shakti.

He added that the government has increased investments in several sectors, including highways, optical fibre connectivity and renewable energy, and it is also committed to a balanced development of the north-eastern region.

PM Gati Shakti, he said, will also help boost exports and make MSMEs globally competitive.
