India’s Preemptive Action Along LAC; Acquires Fresh Areas In Southern Pangong Tso Lake

Earlier in the day, Army Spokesperson Col Aman Anand said the Chinese military carried out "provocative military movements" to "unilaterally" change the status quo on the southern bank of Pangong lake on the intervening night of August 29 and 30 but the attempt was thwarted by the Indian troops.

New Delhi: Following an unsuccessful attempt by the Chinese PLA to unilaterally change the status quo, India has acquired fresh areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in southern areas of PangongTso lake in Chushul sector as a 'pre-emptive' action. As per the sources, the step was a preemptive one else Chinese PLA would have occupied it and India didn't want another Finger Area like situation. The Army has also further bolstered overall surveillance mechanisms in all areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. Following the reports, the Xi Jinping-led country has warned that Sino-India border tensions will "surely escalate this time," since India had "crossed the LAC and purposely launched provocations." The statement issued in Chinese state-run Global Times came after India on Monday morning revealed that it had pre-emptively thwarted Chinese intentions to unilaterally change the status quo on the southern bank of Pangong Tso in eastern Ladakh. India's Ministry of Defence said that People's Liberation Army (PLA) troops had violated the previous consensus arrived at during military and diplomatic engagements during the ongoing standoff in eastern Ladakh and carried out provocative military movements to change the status quo.
