IMD Forecast: Heavy Rains To Lash Maharashtra & Goa In Next 5 Days, Red Alert Issued In This State

IMD has forecast moderate to heavy rain in Maharashtra and Goa in the next five days. The Southwest Monsoon will continue to advance, bringing rainfall to several other states.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a weather forecast, indicating that Maharashtra, Goa, and Kerala will likely receive moderate to heavy rain over the next five days. The Southwest Monsoon reached to other parts of Arabian Sea, continued reaching further into the Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Maharashtra and Odisha, and some more parts of Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh.

The IMD also reported that conditions are conducive for the Southwest Monsoon to progress further into additional areas of the North Arabian Sea and Gujarat State, more regions of Madhya Pradesh, the remaining parts of Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar, and parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand over the next 3-4 days.

On Sunday, heavy rainfall also lashed parts of Jammu and Kashmir causing landslides in part of Poonch district.

As per IMD's report, a cyclonic circulation is currently situated over south Chhattisgarh in the lower and middle tropospheric levels, with a trough extending from this system to south Maharashtra in lower levels. This weather pattern is expected to bring fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) to several regions.

The areas likely to be affected include, Konkan and Goa, central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, and Gujarat state, which will likely receive widespread light to moderate rain.

Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are expected to get scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall over the next five days.

Coastal and interior Karnataka, Mahe, and Kerala is likely to get isolated extremely heavy rainfall on June 23.

Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are likely to get isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall on June 24-25 and during June 25-27, respectively.

Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on June 23, 24, Gangetic West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh during June 25-27, and Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha during the next five days, are very likely to receive fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph), IMD said. 

IMD Issues Red Alert In 3 North Kerala Districts

IMD on Sunday issued a 'red alert' for Kozhikode, Wayanad, and Kannur Districts of Kerala, indicating the likelihood of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall exceeding 20 cm within 24 hours. Additionally, six other districts including Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Kasaragod were placed under an 'orange alert' for Sunday, forecasting very heavy rainfalls ranging from 11 cm to 20 cm. 

As per the PTI report, for Monday, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts will continue to remain under 'orange alert.'

The weather department has also issued a 'yellow alerts' in other districts for both Sunday and Monday. A yellow alert means the place could receive heavy rainfall between 6 cm and 11 cm.
