Images Of Indian Troops Hoisting Flag In Galwan Valley On New Year Surface After Similar China Claims

The government had come under Opposition fire after Chinese state media put out a video showing PLA soldiers unfurling their national flag allegedly in Ladakh's Galwan Valley.

New Delhi: After a purported video of Chinese soldiers celebrating the New Year at a location near the Galwan valley surfaced on social media, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday tweeted images of Indian Army troops with the tricolour in Galwan.

"Brave Indian Army soldiers in Galwan Valley on the occasion of New Year 2022," Kiren Rijiju tweeted along with the images.

The government had come under Opposition fire after Chinese state media put out a video showing PLA soldiers unfurling their national flag allegedly in Ladakh's Galwan Valley to celebrate the new year.

However, the Army had stated that the spot where the Chinese flag was unfurled was not in the disputed area, reports said. A PTI report claimed that the video was from an area on the Chinese side of the LAC near the Galwan valley region.

After the video went viral, Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala hit out at the Centre on the issue of Chinese transgressions.

"Mr Prime Minister, the entire country and the world want to know as to how the Chinese unfurled the Chinese flag in Galwan Valley and wrote in the Chinese language that they will not give an inch of land back," Randeep Surjewala told reporters.

Randeep Surjewala said the prime minister "should not be scared" of China and accused the government of compromising national security.

"Please, show red eyes to China. Please, look into their eyes and ensure that the Chinese transgression is decisively defeated. Please show to the world that India cannot only defend itself, we can throw out those who dare to occupy our territory, that is 'Raj Dharma'," Surjewala said.

"With a sense of responsibility, I must say today that the Modi Government has compromised national security... I must say that we have a weak-kneed Prime Minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi," he alleged.

More than 20 Indian soldiers were killed in a clash with Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh in June 2020. China has claimed that five of its soldiers were killed in the clash.

The border standoff between the Indian and Chinese militaries erupted on May 5, 2020, following a violent clash in the Pangong Lake area.
