Heartbroken Over India's World Cup Loss, 2 Die By Suicide Following In West Bengal, Odisha

Heartbroken by the loss of India in the World Cup final against Australia on Sunday, two persons died by suicide in separate incidents in West Bengal’s Bankura and Odisha’s Jajpur.

In a shocking incident, two individuals allegedly died by suicide following India's loss to Australia in the Cricket World Cup final. The two cases were reported from West Bengal’s Bankura and Odisha’s Jajpur. According to PTI, 23-year-old Rahul Lohar took the extreme step near a cinema hall in the Belitore police station area of Bankura around 11 PM on Sunday, shortly after India lost to Australia by six wickets. The second case involves 23-year-old Dev Ranhan Das from Jajpur, who was found hanging from the terrace of his house in the Binjharpur area shortly after the match on Sunday night.

Rahul Lohar, employed at a clothing store in the area, had taken a leave on Sunday to watch the final match. He was heartbroken by the result and hanged himself in his room, as reported to the police by his brother-in-law Uttam Sur. Sur further mentioned that there were no other apparent problems in Lohar’s life.

There was no one present in the house when the incident occurred. Lohar’s body was sent to the Bankura Sammilani Medical College and Hospital on Monday for a post-mortem examination, leading to the registration of a case of unnatural death.

According to PTI, the second person, Dev Ranjan Das had been undergoing treatment for an "emotional disorder syndrome," as conveyed by his uncle to the police. After India lost the final, he left home in despair, as stated by a family member.

"We have registered an unnatural death case and are awaiting the autopsy report," said Indramani Juanga, Officer-in-Charge of Jari Outpost.

Despite being unbeaten until the final match, Rohit Sharma's team couldn't secure victory on Sunday.

India managed to post a total of 240 runs in the final, despite a promising start by captain Rohit Sharma. The middle-order struggled to maintain the tempo on a dry Ahmedabad pitch.
