Tapan Ghosh, a famed Hindutva leader and founder of far-right group Hindu Samhati Hindu Samhati passed away at a hospital in Kolkata on Sunday at the age of 67.

According to the reports, former RSS leader Ghosh was found to be infected with novel Coronavirus disease following which he was admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata last week.

Ghosh, who was once famous as RSS pracharak since 1975, parted his ways from the organisation in 2007 due to ideological differences. A year later, he formed Hindu Samhati in 2008 with just a few hundred people.

Gosh, become a known name in various districts for his fiery speeches and often controversial remarks. The organisation under his leadership spread to all districts of West Bengal, and also opened units in Jharkhand and Assam. After almost 10 years with the organisation, Tapan then left Hindu Samhati in 2018, following some differences within the outfit.

Reacting upon the demise of Tapan Ghosh, senior BJP leader Swapan Dasgupta expressed his condolences and said he was one of the most dedicated persons fighting for the unity of Hindus in West Bengal.

"He gave his life to this cause, inspiring thousands through personal example. He will always be remembered and provide constant inspiration. Om Shanti," Mr Dasgupta, a Rajya Sabha MP, tweeted.

It is to be marked that Ghosh is the second politician in the state to die due to COVID-19. Last month, Trinamool Congress MLA succumbed to the contagion. Gosh is survived by two sisters.
