'How Will The Woman Get Justice': Himanta Biswa Sarma On Rahul Gandhi's 'Sexual Harassment' Charge

Himanat Biswa Sarma said Rahul Gandhi must provide details of women who were allegedly raped so that justice can be served by the concerned authorities.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday over his remarks about a woman in Jammu & Kashmir, who said she was sexually harassed. Gandhi said that he met her during his Bharat Jodo Yatra earlier this year.

Sarma asked Rahul to provide details of the incident so that the concerned authorities can take action on it.

During the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandi had issued a statement in Srinagar, saying: "In one particular case, I asked a girl if she had been raped. I asked her if we should call the police, to which she asked us not to call the policefor dear of being shamed."

The Congress leader has been urged by the police to furnish information on these victims so that they can be given security.

Sarma was quoted by ANI, "If Rahul Gandhi will not give the names of the victim women (of alleged sexual harassment) then how will they get justice?"

Sarma also said Rahul Gandhi must have asked Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to condemn the Delhi police's action against him today.

He said, "Ashok Gehlot is a very senior leader. He is aware of all of this. Rahul Gandhi must have called him and asked him to condemn it and hence he is saying this," reported ANI.

Earlier today, Ashok Gehlot said that police could not have gone to Rahul Gandhi's residence without an order from Home Minister Amit Shah.

BJP leader Sambit Patra also joined Himanata Biswa Sarma in criticising Rahul Gandhi for not providing details of the woman who was allegedly sexually harassed. Patra too was talking about the same woman that Gandhi mentioned during his Bharat Jodo Yatra.

He said since Rahul Gandhi had talked about a woman being allegedly raped in Jammu and Kashmir, the police have the right to know about the matter.

Patra criticised the Congress for not providing details of the matter to police on Sunday when they went to his home to deliver a notice and request Rahul Gandhi to tell them about those women.

Patra also slammed the Congress for saying that democracy is in danger now.

Earlier in the day, BJP National General Secretary Dushyant Kumar Gautam said that having information about the victims of sexual harassment for so long, and not informing police about the same was a big sin for a person of his stature.

He said that perhaps Gandhi has no faith in the country's judiciary and institutions adding that Rahul Gandhi should have come forth to send these perpetrators behind bars.

"He either has no faith in the Indian judicial system or he does not believe in the safety of women in the country," he said.

Gautam further said that apart from this, Gandhi must also furnish details of terrorists he claimed to have talked to during his Bharat Jodo Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir.

He said, "He should be giving information about these anti-social elements to the judiciary but he does not have faith in all these."

The BJP leaders started reacting after the police earlier in the day reached Rahul Gandhi's residence in Delhi days after sending him a notice to furnish details of women who shared their ordeal of 'sexual harassment' with him during his Bharat Jodo Yatra in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was seen leaving from his residence after meeting with the Delhi police officials.

Delhi Police Special CP(L&O) Sagar Preet Hooda has said that the police officials met Rahul Gandhi regarding details of victims of 'sexual harassment' and the leader has sought time to compile the details. Hooda said that the Congress MP asked for some time saying that the yatra was very long and he met many people.

Hooda said, "Rahul Gandhi said it was a long yatra and he met many people and needs time to compile it. He has assured us that he will give the information soon and we will begin our proceedings as soon as we receive the information," as quoted by ANI.
