Himachal Pradesh: 4.0 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Chamba Region
At a time when India is already reeling under the deadly Coronavirus pandemic, many incident of earthquakes have been reported from various parts of the country.
New Delhi: Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba region was hit by an earthquake on Tuesday, April 28. The magnitude of the earthquake recorded on the Richter scale was 4.0. As per initial reports, the tremors were felt around 12:17 pm and the magnitude was moderate.
There were no reports of loss of life or damage to property so far. The state witnesses dozens of mild earthquakes every year due to its geographical location.
Various districts of Himachal Pradesh are prone to earthquake as its boundaries fall in the zone of continental collision of the Indian and Eurasian plates. Earthquakes have been a regular feature of the entire Himalayan system.
At a time when India is already reeling under the deadly Coronavirus pandemic, many incident of earthquakes have been reported from various parts of the country.
Earlier this month, the Delhi-NCR region was jolted by an earthquake of magnitude 2.7 on April 13. Tremors were felt all across the national capital region. The epicenter of the quake was in East Delhi about 8 km underground. The tremors were also felt in neighboring Noida, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad.
Similarly, an earthquake of magnitude 3.2 on the Richter scale struck Himachal Pradesh's Chamba region in February this year. The incident happened on February 29, just a day after the region bordering Jammu and Kashmir was jolted by a same intensity earthquake.
Not just in India, but reports of earthquakes also came from different parts of the world. Few days ago, a powerful 6.1-magnitude earthquake jolted Japan.
As per the Meteorological Agency, tremors were felt off Miyagi Prefecture early morning, where the epicentre was recorded a depth of 50 kms.
