'Have No Interest In Congress President Post', Says Kamal Nath As He Meets Party Chief Sonia Gandhi

According to ANI, the Congress high command had earlier asked the veteran politician to immediately come to Delhi and help the party defuse the political crisis in Rajasthan.

Ending speculations, senior Congress leader and former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh Kamal Nath Monday said he would not contest the upcoming Congress presidential election. Kamal Nath made the statement before meeting Congress chief Sonia Gandhi at her residence on Tuesday amid the ongoing political crisis in Rajasthan, reported news agency ANI.

"I have no interest in (Congress) President post, only here for Navratri wishes," Kamal Nath said while speaking to reporters before meeting the party chief.

According to ANI, the Congress high command had earlier asked the veteran politician to immediately come to Delhi and help the party defuse the political crisis in Rajasthan.

Earlier on Monday, Congress leaders Ajay Maken and Mallikaarjun Kharge, observers of the political crisis in Rajasthan met Sonia Gandhi, who asked them to give a written report on the situation.

"I have briefed Congress President... she has sought a detailed report which I will send to her..," Maken told media persons after the meeting.

As Congress tries to end the political crisis in Rajasthan by finding a successor to Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot who is likely to fight the party's presidential polls, the status quo will be maintained till the process is over for filing nominations, according to ANI.

"Status-quo to be maintained till Congress president election nominations. Decision on issuing of show cause notices to miffed MLAs, vocal in public, will be taken after interim chief takes action on a report by observers," reported ANI citing sources.

The process for filing nominations for Congress presidential elections will end on September 30.

The Congress in Rajasthan plunged into a crisis on Sunday after around 90 MLAs submitted their resignation to Rajasthan Assembly Speaker CP Joshi over a possible move to appoint Sachin Pilot as Gehlot's successor.
