Nuh Violence: Toll Rises To 6 With Death Of Bajrang Dal Activist, Over 110 Held, Delhi On Alert. Top Points

Haryana Nuh Violence: The violence that erupted in Nuh in Haryana's Mewat region has spread to neighbouring Gurgaon. Delhi Police has strengthened security at sensitive places.

The violence that erupted in Nuh in Haryana's Mewat region during a procession led by the Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad has spread to neighbouring Gurugram, with Delhi Police strengthening security at sensitive places amid concerns of a spill over in the national capital.

Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij said the situation was under control even as the death toll in the communal violence rose to six on Wednesday. 

Apart from Gurugram, violence was also reported from Haryana's Palwal district, where a mob set over 25 huts in Parshuram Colony on fire. Border areas in Rajasthan have also been put on alert after "two or three" shops in Bhiwadi town were vandalised, police said.

Haryana Nuh Violence: Here Are The Latest Updates 

  • The death toll in the communal clashes, which started on Monday, rose to six on Wednesday, with the Vishva Hindu Parishad reporting the death of a Bajrang Dal activist during treatment.
  • Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, in a video message, appealed for peace and said 116 people have been arrested in connection with the violence.
  • While no new incident was reported from Nuh, the epicentre of the violence, 14 companies of paramilitary forces have been stationed. In total, 30 companies of Haryana Police and 20 companies of Central paramilitary forces have been deployed in the state.
  • The violence spilled over into Gurugram, just an hour away from Delhi, on Tuesday night. A violent mob went on a rampage, killing a cleric during an attack on a mosque, torching an eatery and vandalising shops, police told PTI.
  • The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) held agitations in parts of Delhi in protest agaisnt the  communal clashes that occurred in Nuh. The protests at Nirman Vihar metro station blaocked traffic in Delhi's Vikas Marg, which connects east Delhi to the central parts of the city.
  • In a statement, Delhi Police said elaborate security arrangements were made at all sensitive places in Delhi and additional police forces were deployed. Drones were also used to keep a watch on the situation. "Any attempt to harm Delhi's security and communal harmony will be dealt with strictly," the Delhi Police said.
  • Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala on Wednesday said the procession organisers in Nuh did not provide complete information to the district administration, which resulted in the violence.
