Haryana To 'Completely Seal' Borders With Delhi After Capital Reports Spike In Covid-19 Cases
Haryana on Thursday reported one more Covid-19 death, taking the total number of fatalities in the state to 19.
Chandigarh: In order to prevent the further spread of Coronavirus, Haryana government on Thursday announced that it is going to completely seal its border with Delhi once again. The decision to close border with Delhi has been taken in the backdrop of significantly increasing Covid-19 cases in the national capital.
"Haryana government has issued orders to "completely seal" all borders with Delhi except for essential services, state Home Minister Anil Vij adding that Covid-19 cases have been increasing in districts sharing a border with the national capital.
"The main reason behind the spike in cases is the entry of people from Delhi into areas of Haryana which share its border with Delhi," he said. As per reports, the minister has also written a letter to the Home Secretary regarding the same.
Citing the cases that were reported in last one week, the letter by Vij said that 98 coronavirus cases have come up in Faridabad, 111 in Gurugram, six in Jhajjar and 27 in Sonipat. This is for the second time that Manohar Lal Khattar-led Haryana government decided to seal its border with Delhi. Last month, Haryana clamped down its borders with Delhi after Vij said many who work in Delhi and stay in Haryana have become 'corona-carriers'. However, Delhi High Court intervened in the matter and ordered Haryana to allow those involved in essential services to travel between the two states. The court also asked Haryana government to revoke special restrictions on its borders imposed during the nationwide Covid-19 lockdown. Coronavirus cases count in the national capital witnessed a record jump of 1,024 in a day on Thursday, taking the total tally to 16,281 while the death tally has reached 316, the Delhi Health Department. Out of the total cases, 8,470 were active. As per the Delhi Health reports, 13 new deaths were added in the tally, taking the total Covid toll in the national capital to 316. Meanwhile, Haryana on Thursday reported one more Covid-19 death, taking the total number of fatalities in the state to 19. Haryana too recorded the highest single-day jump in cases at 123, raising the Covid-19 tally to 1,504.#WATCH "We will keep our border with Delhi completely sealed due to increasing COVID19 cases," Haryana Minister Anil Vij#COVID19 pic.twitter.com/aVZsMJkec2
