Parts of Gujarat have been hit hard by heavy rains, leading to widespread destruction and claiming the lives of nine individuals in rain-related incidents over the past two days. Some areas have received over 200 mm of rain in the last 30 hours alone, PTI reported citing an official familiar with the matter. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued a forecast that calls for more heavy rains in isolated areas of various districts on Saturday, followed by light to moderate rain on Sunday and Monday.

  • Heavy rains have pounded several parts of Gujarat, with some areas receiving more than 200 mm of rain in the last 30 hours, causing widespread disruption.
  • Nine people have died in rain-related incidents in the last two days, highlighting the devastation caused by the heavy rains.
  • The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast that predicts heavy showers in isolated areas of various districts on Saturday, followed by light to moderate rain on Sunday and Monday.
  • Normal life has been severely disrupted in the districts of Junagadh, Jamnagar, Morbi, Kutch, Surat, and Tapi, with heavy waterlogging and road closures in several towns and cities.
  • According to data from the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), 37 talukas (administrative divisions) in Gujarat received more than 100 mm of rain in 30 hours, with Vyara taluka in Tapi district receiving 299 mm of rainfall.
  • Junagadh city (298 mm), Valod taluka in Tapi district (288 mm), Mahuva in Surat (256 mm), Jamnagar city (236 mm), Bardoli in Surat (223 mm), Mendarda in Junagadh (207 mm), and Dolvan in Tapi district (206 mm) were also significantly affected by heavy rainfall.
  • According to the recent forecast by IMD, heavy rains are expected in isolated areas of Gandhinagar, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, and Valsad districts on Saturday, with light to moderate rain expected in other parts of the state on Sunday and Monday.
  • Rain-related incidents have tragically resulted in the deaths of four children in Panchmahal district, two in Anand due to wall collapses on Thursday, and two men in Jamnagar and Arvalli districts. On Friday, a woman drowned in floodwaters in the Amreli district's Lathi taluka.
  • The ongoing heavy rains and subsequent waterlogging pose significant challenges to the affected areas, necessitating immediate response and relief measures to ensure the residents' safety and well-being.
