The second wave of Covid-19 has more or less calmed down in Indore, but very quickly fungus infections came to like, although so far it was black, white, and yellow fungi infections. On Tuesday the case of the green fungus infection came to light in a Covid survivor who went through 90 days of treatment.

Health Department officer Dr. Apoorva Tiwari said that the Medical and Health Department received a report from a hospital in Indore. Dr Ravi Dosi, head of the Department of Chest Diseases, Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences (SAIMS) said that 34-year-old Vishal Sridhar, who from the last one and a half months, got his treatment at Aurobindo Hospital, yet the 90 percent involvement of his lungs was not recovering.

Suspecting he had contracted the dreaded black fungus infection (mucormycosis) his lungs were examined in Aurobindo Hospital and was found that a fungus of green color has been found in the patient's lungs, which cannot be called Mucor, so it cannot be called Mucormycosis, but due to its green color, it is called Green Fungus.

Dr. Apoorva said that this is the first case in the country in which a fungus of green color has been found in the lungs of a person and added that the patient has been referred to Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai from a private chartered plane. Dr. Ravi Doshi is constantly keeping an eye on the condition of the patient by keeping in touch with the doctors of Mumbai.

Dr. Dosi said that the infection was found in his sinuses, lungs, and blood. More research was needed on whether the nature of green fungus infection in people who have recovered from COVID-19 is different from other patients, Dr. Dosi said. The man was admitted to a local hospital two months ago with almost 100 percent coronavirus infection in the lungs and was treated in the ICU for about a month.

"The patient recovered. But then he started having nose bleeds and a high fever. He had also become very weak due to weight loss," he added.
