Man Smuggles Gold Worth Rs 52 Lakh From Dubai Inside Rectum, Arrested At Delhi Airport

Air Customs arrested a passenger who arrived from Dubai after 991.4 gms gold worth Rs 51.72 lakhs was extracted from three capsules hidden in his rectum and seized under the Customs Act of 1962.

Air Customs on Friday apprehended a passenger arriving from Dubai after discovering 991.4 grammes of gold worth Rs 51.72 lakhs concealed in three capsules hidden in his rectum in a significant operation at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. The gold was seized under the Customs Act of 1962 as a result of the authorities' quick action. The on-the-spot profiling was crucial in detecting the illegal smuggling attempt. The arrested person is being investigated by authorities, who are looking into any possible links to gold smuggling networks.

On August 2, the IGI airport customs department arrested a person who arrived from Hyderabad for allegedly smuggling 1,040 grammes of gold. The gold bar was smuggled on a flight from Dubai to Hyderabad, news agency PTI reported citing officials.

The gold that was recovered has been confiscated. According to the report, the Indian passenger was booked on July 24. "Six cut pieces of gold bars weighing a total of 1,040 grammes and having a tariff value of Rs 54.34 lakh were recovered following a thorough search. The recovered goods were discovered to be smuggled in the aircraft while it was flying from Dubai to Hyderabad," an official told PTI.

On July 30, the Pune customs authorities apprehended two Chennai-based men who were concealing gold in both paste and solid form and attempting to smuggle it out in yet another case of attempted good smuggling in less than a month. Customs officials said in a statement on Friday that one of the men had made a special cavity in his pants to conceal the gold paste, Times of India reported today.
