Four medicos tie, torture and stab monkey to death in Chennai

New Delhi: In a horrific incident of animal cruelty, four medical students from Christian Medical College, Vellore tortured and brutally killed a female monkey which entered their rooms on 19th November. The incident comes months after few medical students in Chennai had landed in the soup for throwing a dog off the terrace for fun. “They tied her hands and started abusing and torturing her by beating her with sticks and belts, broke her legs, jaws and finally put a rod up her anus and killed her.” said Chennai based animal activist Shravan Krishnan in a Facebook post. After putting the animal through unspeakable agony, the four medicos got the carcass buried behind the hostel mess by the college sweepers. The murder came to light after students inside the colleges informed Meet Ashar, a Mumbai-based animal activist who later informed the concerned people in Chennai. It was then that the monkey's body was exhumed from behind the boy’s hostel and sent for postmortem. A FIR was slapped against the four students responsible and cases were booked under IPC 429 and Wildlife protection act of 1972. The students were immediately suspended from the college and have been taken for questioning by the police. It’s just sad that such deplorable acts of cruelty indescribable are being carried out by medical students who are supposed to be extremely compassionate and vow to save lives.
