Former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley Admitted To AIIMS Following Chest Congestion
Former Finance Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jailey on Saturday morning was admitted to All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) following a minor chest congestion.
New Delhi: Former Finance Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jailey on Saturday morning was admitted to All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) following a complaint of breathlessness and restlessness. As per reports, Jaitley was admitted in AIIMS's Cardiothoracic and Neurosciences Centre for a medical check-up. The BJP leader has been keeping unwell from one year after he underwent a kidney transplant in 2018. Doctors say that the former FM is doing well. The AIIMS, in a statement, said, "Arun Jaitley was admitted to AIIMS today morning. He is currently undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit under the supervision of a multidisciplinary team of doctors. At present, he is haemodynamically stable."
Hemodynamically stable means the patient has a stable heart pump and the blood circulation is good. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of State for Health Ashwini Choubey, BJP working president J P Nadda and Sharad Yadav visited the hospital to enquire about Jaitley's health.
Jaitley, 66, was admitted at the Cardio-Neuro-Centre of the hospital around 10 am, hospital sources said. "He is under observation in the ICU. A team of doctors, including endocrinologists, cardiologists and nephrologists, is monitoring his condition," one of the sources said. In May this year, Jaitley was admitted to the AIIMS for treatment.
Keeping in mind his health conditions, Jaitley opted to stay out of the Narendra Modi-led NDA government cabinet which resumed to power post 2019 Lok Sabha Elections. Jaitley served as Finance Minister in the first term of Modi government. His poor health also forced him to stay out of the Interim Budget session in February this year before the Lok Sabha polls.
After the Bharatiya Janata Party returned to power with a thumping majority in the 2019 Lok Saba polls, Arun Jaitley wrote to PM Narendra Modi and told him that he'd like to stay away from "any responsibility" on account of his ill health.
A lawyer by profession, he has been the most important leader in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Cabinet and has often acted as the chief troubleshooter for the government. In January this year, Jaitley went to US for a medical checkup following his kidney transplant last year.
Jaitley had, on 14 May 2018, undergone a renal surgery and was out of the finance ministry for nearly 100 days. During this period, railways and coal minister Piyush Goyal was given additional charge of the finance ministry. Arun Jaitley returned as finance minister on 23 August 2018, and during the next few months limited public interaction to ward off any infection.
Arun Jaitley had undergone a bariatric surgery soon after the BJP government came to power at the Centre in 2014. The surgery, to treat weight gain that he suffered because of a long-standing diabetic condition, was first performed at Max Hospital, but he then had to be shifted to AIIMS because of complications.
